A relevant and effective medium for sharing information, entertainment, and the love of God. Radio Fry Fry 97.1 FM in Freetown, Sierra Leone, celebrated it’s 3rd Anniversary in January 2025. This station is reaching over 1 million people through Facebook and has the potential to reach 5 million in Sierra Leone alone. In a country that is 78% Muslim, there is great potential for impacting people for Jesus.
About Fry Fry
Radio Fry Fry’s General Manager, Brigitte Dalton-Sesay, is passionate about Jesus and people. Her ability to pivot and balance all the pieces of the work and mission is inspiring. Over the past three years, she has implemented changes to the way Radio Fry Fry delivers programing for greater impact.
For instance, when they began, their Gospel music was mainly R&B, Hip Hop, and Country. Now, they have more African based Gospel music, with about 60% Afrobeats and Afropop, with some R&B, and Country Gospel music in the mix. Knowing your audience is a big part of success in radio. Keeping them engaged and entertained keeps them tuned in.
Positive Impact
Radio Fry Fry is impacting culture where they are. Along with their relevant music, their talk radio segments balance timely life topics with Christian life principles. Though they have a huge, Muslim audience, they share God’s love in a relevant way that speaks to them and draws them into conversation. A big part of what Radio Fry Fry does is to share important topics that have the potential to shift cultural norms. The work of transformation takes time and persistence.
Radio Fry Fry does not shy away from important topics such as abuse and justice. Their talk radio dives into real life: the good, the bad, and the ugly and they shine God’s Truth on it. Because they are relevant and timely, the radio station receives between 300 and 600 calls per month, depending on the topics presented. That’s between 9 and 20 calls a day.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect
Transforming Lives
The impact that Radio Fry Fry is having on transforming lives is inspiring. For instance, a man called the radio station after a segment about family abuse. He shared that listening to the radio gave him pause to consider how he had been treating his wife. Growing up, he learned that it was his place to be in control and that he should keep his wife in line.
The team at Radio Fry Fry followed up as he asked questions and talked with him, educating him on how to be a caring spouse and father, that being loving and caring is the way we should be towards one another, not abusive. He was remorseful and shared that he would apologize to his wife and change his actions.
This is how transformation happens; one person that impacts one family can go on to impact their village and even their country. The team at Radio Fry Fry is passionate about transforming the lives of people to make a lasting difference in the world.
