Illnesses that would be easily treated or are uncommon in much of the world continue to cause misery and unnecessary deaths among the most vulnerable.
WHI responds to the scale of the problem by partnering with those on the front lines to strengthen the public health system – alongside clinicians, hospitals, doctors, physical therapists, community health workers, midwives, teachers, health volunteers, medical students, and others – so the most vulnerable will have access to high quality and affordable healthcare and prevention services.

Without medicine, children with malaria and other diseases die long before they have the chance to grow up. But through partnerships with MAP International, Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation, and other, WHI distributes lifesaving medical supplies to vulnerable hospitals and healthcare clinics impacting millions of lives.
Cervical cancer is one of the top cancers that rob women of their lives in Sierra Leone. Without a mom, babies die, and families suffer. But through the Cervical Cancer Screening program, women are experiencing hope and healing through the “see and treat” method, giving hope to families across the nation.
In West Africa children living with disabilities are subject to being labeled as “devils” and they and their families are shunned from the community. But thanks to our Enable the Children program, families, communities, and schools are being educated and supported so children living with disabilities can experience dignity and hope.
In Cambodia young girls experience their menses whether they know what’s happening or not. This can create fear and shame, leading to lost days at school. But through Menses Education, young girls are empowered to understand what is happening in their bodies, and given the supplies needed so they can continue to go to school and live without fear or shame.
Without access to oxygen in the hospital, patients often die when they need the support of oxygen to survive. But with the installation of a solar powered oxygen plant at La Gonave Wesleyen Hospital in Haiti, the medical team is able to assist patients not just in the hospital, but also in other medical clinics.
Sierra Leone has one of the highest under 5 mortality rates in the world, experiencing about 105 deaths per thousand live births. But the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) program is providing strategic infomation so medical providers can better resource the most vulnerable to help save young lives.
