Medicine Distribution Offers Dignity

Waiting on a prescription to be ready in Canada can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of days at most. Once we receive a prescription from the Doctor, it doesn’t cross our minds if that medication would be available.

Access to medications is vitally important for people everywhere. In partnership with other organizations, World Hope International works to remove obstacles for people to receive the health care they need while working towards the Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health and Well-Being for all.

Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well Being

STORY OF HOPE

In one community in Liberia, the local clinic has a catchment population of 8,258. However, like many rural clinics in Liberia, they face a formidable obstacle – the scarcity of essential medications.

World Hope International team members arrived at the clinic to an overwhelming queue of patients awaiting treatment and an overburdened Officer-In-Charge. They arrived with medication to replenish the shelves of the clinic, giving hope to the medical team and patients

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

GIFTS IN KIND (GIK)

Distributing Gifts-In-Kind (GIK) from partner organization MAP International, focuses on replenishing emptying shelves in clinics and hospitals to enhance healthcare access for Liberian citizens. These supplies include medications, medical supplies, and supplementary nutrition.

From January to March of 2024, the GIK program delivered medications to 138 different healthcare facilities across 7 counties in Liberia. This included 14 hospitals, 23 health centers, and 101 clinics. Many of these healthcare facilities are overlooked by mainstream healthcare initiatives, making the GIK program an essential source to acquire much needed supplies and medications.

MORE THAN SUPPLIES

No one should have to wonder if they will be able to receive the medication they need to thrive. Gifts-In-Kind is more than just delivering supplies. It is about restoring dignity, fostering hope, and creating opportunities while nurturing the promise for a healthier tomorrow. With support from generous donors, World Hope will continue strengthening communities in Liberia through the provision of medical supplies that empower local clinics to care for their community members.

Health matters, and in vulnerable communities, good health is a form of currency. Without it, you cannot pursue education, employment, or civic engagement.

If you want to help more people access healthcare and live healthier lives in rural and underserved areas make a gift to The Hope Fund today.
