Beacon of Light and Hope
Strong Foundations
World Hope International and The Wesleyan Church have a long-standing, faith-rooted relationship with the people of Liberia. From the days before the civil war to years of rebuilding and recovery afterwards, we have walked together with communities – offering both humanitarian support and the hope of the Gospel. This past spring was a time of celebration as the new Wesleyan Foundation School in Liberia was dedicated. This multi-year project was centered on both the school and community’s priorities.
A New School
The new school has 16 classrooms, providing education from early childhood through to Senior High. It is a place of opportunity and hope for the students as they progress through their educational journey. In addition to the classrooms, the school has a cafeteria, library and computer lab, a teacher’s lounge, administrative offices, and a hall that serves as a church and event space.

The new solar powered water and electrification system provides clean water to approximately 2,000 people, including 500 students who are enrolled at the school. Since safe sanitation and hygiene are important to the community, the school was built with 16 cubicle toilets and bathroom facilities.
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14 NIV
New Hope
The school and church are now a place of hope for the community because everyone is welcome to come and use clean water and be refreshed by spiritual water; the Word of God. In a country where many people lack access to safe water, this new school stands as a beacon of light and hope in a hard place. A place where Christ centered learning and compassion are experienced, no matter the age. July 19 saw the close of a successful school year and when the doors open in the new semester this Fall, students will walk in, full of hope.
