Delivering Hope

by | Nov 13, 2024 | Global Health, Healthcare Accessibility, Liberia

In clinics and hospitals around Liberia, medicines and medical supplies can often run out.  Working together with MAP International to do medical distributions, World Hope International is providing hospitals and clinics with needed supplies to better care for those in need of medical attention. Supplies distributed include medications, medical and non-medical supplies, as well as equipment needed to care for vulnerable children and their families.

Right On Time

The medical distribution team arrived at one clinic in Western Liberia to find that they were overwhelmed with patients. They arrived just in time to replenish the shelves with essential medical supplies. Without the arrival of the distribution team, children and their families would have gone without the care they needed. The next day, word got out that the clinic was restocked, many patients were seen and cared for.

Perfect Provision

In a remote town in Southern Liberia, a pregnant woman was rushed to a medical clinic only to find out that the clinic had run out of needles and syringes to administer crucial medications to her. Desperate and anxious, the team explained to her husband that the closest hospital that had the appropriate supplies was 2 hours away. As he was headed out the door to make the journey on foot, a medical distribution team arrived at the clinic with exactly what was needed, bringing with them hope and relief. After some time, and some medication to ease the mom’s pain, a baby girl’s cries were heard ringing through the clinic and an entire community rejoiced, a miracle had unfolded in their midst.

An Unexpected Delivery

When the distribution team arrived at a clinic to deliver supplies, there was panic among the staff there, who informed them that there was an 18-year-old in labour experiencing complications. She needed immediate transportation to a hospital, but all their attempts at securing an ambulance were unsuccessful. She had been dropped off at the clinic alone, with no one to help her.

The only transportation available for her was a motorbike which was very risky for her condition, both mom and baby could die during transport. While all this was happening the distribution team arrived with a van full of supplies. After some discussion, the van was quickly unloaded, the team welcomed her aboard and drove her to the hospital for lifesaving surgery.

Just before leaving the clinic, her aunt arrived and was able to travel with her. After safely arriving at the hospital, a healthy baby boy was born.

More Than a Job

Medical distribution teams provide dignity and hope to those in need by delivering medicine and medical supplies, but their compassionate care for others and quick action goes above and beyond the requirements of a job.

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.’
Matthew 25:34-40
