Caring for the Carers 

Caring for child survivors of online sex trafficking is a high stress job. Whether rescuing, counselling, or reintegrating children who have experienced this kind of evil, it can take a toll on the carer. For this reason, investing in developing habits of self-care is of the utmost importance. The team at WHI Philippines recognizes this and integrates it into their regular training meetings. During training times, the team and partners engage in meaningful discussions, plan impactful programs, share healthy meals together, and embrace their creative side. 

Whether eating, planning, painting or creating, this team is “brewing hope” for themselves and those they are caring for. Hope is built in small moments, moments that are meaningful and soul filling to those living them. When energized, we are much more effective in our work. Something special happens when we gather for the purpose of intentionally taking care of the staff members, the whole person, not just the needs of the organization. 

Positive Outflow 

Investing in the mental and physical health of the carer empowers them to be better equipped to handle the day-to-day work they are doing. Preventing burnout helps the entire team work more effectively and efficiently. They are better equipped to provide the care these children deserve. The survivors are the most valuable part of this work. Therefore, having someone to care for them who is supported breathes hope into their lives. Mental health matters for both vulnerable children and those who work with them.
