Bridge of Hope

The Reality *

Children in Haiti are facing a crisis that cannot be ignored. According to UNICEF, child recruitment by armed groups surged by nearly 200% in 2025, a devastating sign of how deeply violence is impacting children. All children are at risk, especially those living in the most vulnerable communities.

A child should never have to learn to live in fear. And yet, this is the reality for thousands of children in Haiti today. Behind the silence, the tears, and the sudden changes in behaviour, there are invisible wounds that many children carry alone.

In Haiti, over 1.4 million people are internally displaced and over half of that number are children. Violence, extreme poverty, and natural disasters have created complex conditions that no child should have to navigate. But there is hope.

The Hope

Bridge of Hope is a bold initiative that provides psychological assistance to children living in gang-controlled areas. The program is designed to help support not only the children but their educators and families as well. Bridge of Hope will help teachers, parents, and entire communities recognize and respond to the trauma children are experiencing.

Teachers have a special place in children’s lives. This training empowers them to be pillars of support for their students. From March to June, psychologists are going to be present in schools, offering direct care and guidance to children, families, and educators.

Bridge of Hope also reaches out to equip parents, because everything begins at home. A team member says, “We listen to them, we train them, and we walk alongside them.” A parent empowered to listen, to understand, to comfort, and to protect, can change the course of a child’s life.

Through these trainings, parents receive training to recognize the hidden pain in their children, to find the right words, and to rebuild a sense of safety; even in the midst of insecurity. A child who feels loved and protected today, becomes a stronger adult tomorrow. These initiatives are building trust, resilience, and well-being in Haiti’s children, sparking hope for their futures.

The Prayer

One parent commented after the Bridge of Hope training, “I pray every day that God will protect my children, so they remain on the right path and do not fall under the influence of youth involved in armed gangs. Through this training, I have learned how to better listen to them and support them emotionally in what they are experiencing in our neighborhood.”

Light in Dark Spaces

Every action we take is guided by the belief that every child matters. Every child deserves safety. Every child deserves dignity. Every child deserves a future. This is why World Hope International Haiti is stepping forward with courage and confidence, to be hope in hard places.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
